Artists Statement

My inspiration for this series of books  comes from the acid soil, the schist black&ocre iron oxide rocks and the vegetation that thrives in  the dry blistering heat of the summer sun here in the Cevennes region of France. Creating  paper and books from trees which where in passed times relied upon for food and  for warmth, brings me in touch with the natural and cultural landscape of this special place. These trees carry their history and legend in their  gnarled , whithering aged trunks, and  in the unconcious  collective memory of the Cevennoles,  and I hope in my work.
